Holdsworth House Wedding Photography - Angela & David

On a beautiful sunny day, I made my way across the winding country roads of Yorkshire. My destination was the Holdsworth House Hotel in Halifax. This Jacobean manor dates back to 1633, although there is evidence of a building on the site as far back as 1272. Naturally, being such an old building, it is steeped in history. It has links to the Bronte and Lister families. More recently, it has been host to countless celebrities, the most famous of which, was the Beatles. This hotel boasts a wealth of period features that add a sense of calm, comfort and tradition. It was the perfect setting for Angela & David’s Harry Potter Themed Wedding.

Bridal Preparations

When I arrived Angela, Martina (Maid of Honour), and their girls were getting started with the bridal preparations. They were based in one of the bedrooms of this stunning hotel. Angela began by applying her own make-up before helping the girls with their hair. Although Angela did her own make-up, she had arranged for a hairdresser to arrive, to fix her and Martina’s hair. While the hairdresser got started, I seized the opportunity to go and see the groom and his best girl. While things were still quiet, we took a few photos of the two of them in the gardens before I returned to the girls. Once the hair stylist had finished the pace began to pick up and it wasn’t long before Angela was in her dress and ready to go.

A Courtyard Ceremony

Angela and David had arranged to marry in the courtyard surrounded by all their guests. David took his position at the front, accompanied by his daughter as Best Girl. Together, they eagerly awaited the arrival of the bride. First down the aisle was the Maid of Honour and her girls shortly followed by the flower girl and ring bearer. A very emotional Angela, escorted by her father, then made her way down the aisle. Wedding ceremonies are always emotional events and this one was no exception. The ceremony took place with a mix of laughter and tears, as the guests witnessed the joining together of this lovely couple.

Drinks & Easter Eggs

Following the ceremony everyone made their way to the front of the house for the confetti gauntlet and group photographs. Once these photos were complete all the children gathered together for an Easter Egg hunt while we concentrated on the formal portraits. The Bride, Groom and myself wandered around the grounds of Holdsworth House, making use of the amazing gardens. We were so lucky with the weather, it had been beautiful sunshine all day. However, at the end of the formals it started to snow. Luckily we had the photos we needed so ventured inside for warmth and socialising.

The Wedding Breakfast

After a short time, everyone was invited to take their seats for the Wedding Breakfast. The new Mr & Mrs were introduced into the room followed by the speeches. The father of the bride kicked off the proceedings. His speech was touching and recounted the story of how the couple met. This was followed by the grooms speech which was heart felt, funny and insightful. Laughter then turned to emotional tears as daughter, and Best Girl, said a few words. Her words grabbed everyones heart strings, including my own, and I’m pretty sure there wasn’t a dry eye in the room. To return everyone to laughter it was then the turn of the Head Groomsman. True to form his speech was hilarious and had everyone in fits of giggles once more. The speeches done so was my time with this wonderful family and their amazing magical wedding.

I wish Angela and David many, many more happy years together. I hope their wedding memories will forever be the basis of their Patronus Charm!
