Wedding Photography at Sawley Abbey
Laura and Lee got married at The Spread Eagle, in Clitheroe, but Laura began her day having her hair done at home. The lady doing Laura’s hair was from 77’s Hair Design in Eccleston and by sheer co-incidence it was the very same lady that did my own wedding hair back in 2003. After Laura’s hair was looking perfect the girls went to Heaven on Earth to have their make-up applied and from here they moved on to The Spread Eagle for the final preparations.
Meanwhile, the guys were having a great time making the journey to The Spread Eagle in a vintage VW Camper Van. Spirits were high while we took some of the formal shots before the guys moved into the ceremony room to await the arrival of the bride.
The Spread Eagle is an unassuming but attractive coaching Inn nestling within the Forest of Bowland and a truly stunning venue for a wedding. On one side of the building flows the River Ribble, on the other are the remains of the C12th Cistercian Sawley Abbey, and from a distance the magnificent and brooding Pendle Hill casts its shadow.
The ceremony was simply beautiful. It took place in a room that had huge windows overlooking the Ribble and the surrounding countryside. Following the ceremony we took some group shots and some formal couple photographs. It would have been criminal if we hadn’t taken the short walk across the road to use the stunning backdrops of the ruins of Sawley Abbey for these photos.
Following the photographs everyone took their seats for the meal and the speeches. The speeches were all well delivered and very funny. The groom’s son even got pretty much the whole room to “Dab” on one occasion.
It was a fantastic day, with stunning weather and an equally stunning bride & groom. I wish Laura & Lee all the very best for their future together and thank them for having me as their wedding photographer. Here are a few of my favourite photos from their awesome day….
